Myths:

The only thing you can do for presbyopia is get reading glasses.

Facts:

A combination of visual therapy, nutrition, and lifestyle changes can help slow down the progression of farsighted vision, or presbyopia, and possibly even improve vision. Certain nutrients such as lutein, zeaxanthin, vinpocetine, l-lysine, a number of vitamins & enzymes, may help slow down development of Presbyopia and preserve vision.

Overview:

The word Presbyopia is derived from Latin, and means "old eyes". Presbyopia is a vision condition in which the crystalline lens of your eye loses its flexibility, which makes it difficult for you to focus on close objects.

Presbyopia may seem to occur suddenly, but the actual loss of flexibility takes place over a number of years. It usually becomes noticeable in the early to mid-forties.

Some signs of presbyopia include the tendency to hold reading materials at arm's length, blurred vision at normal reading distance, and eye fatigue along with headaches when doing close work.

Symptoms:

Difficulty seeing details close-up without the use of glasses. May also start experiencing problems seeing between 16 inches and three feet away as presbyopia progresses.

Causes:

The causes of presbyopia can vary from person to person, but below are some of the variables that may affect one's near vision:
  • Genetics
  • Age
  • Stress
  • Personality type. There are emotional factors that effect how one's vision develops.
  • Diet
