Ribose is a sugar compound located in all living cells. It has been found to have the effect of promoting muscle energy metabolism. It is the body's primary compound forming the nucleotides ADP, AMP and ATP, which are used up in due to reduced oxygen or strenuous physical activity. If ribose levels in the body are insufficient, it cannot convert to PRPP which is needed to recharge muscle cell functioning under stress. The body can slowly create ribose from glucose the process is slow and depends on other enzymes often in in short supply.
Extra ribose allows the body to bypass the slower step and rapidly supply compounds needed to maintain healthy muscle functioning.
